Last month during my regular reading rounds I noticed something on RKB’s blog (that’s The Lusty Lady). She linked over to Bianca Beauchamp’s site and a picture set she had done.
Now, the photos look great but, that’s not the problem. See, the problem is there are a lot of people who will take serious offense to something like this:
The very same people who have a problem with the way characters like Power Girl are drawn are certain to go apoplectic over something like this.
I started this draft way back in January 2008 and that’s 13 years ago now. The thing I find funny now is that there are women who get greatly upset by this, I mean they do go apoplectic.
Any time we have a discussion about men looking at women, looking at their bodies, ohmigod, ohmigod, OH MY GOD!!!! It’s such a BIG problem!
There was a big hubbub about Power Girl at one time and how her costume and physique were simply impossible which was something to consider right up until the time I saw this:
That’s Larkin Love photographed by Coop - it’s part of a NSFW set I can’t share of course (I don’t think the Power Girl set is NSFW but a lot of Coop’s stream is).
So, as far as cosplay goes Larkin Love does a pretty good job there of pulling off a Power Girl and damn if she doesn’t have the physique to match so, so much about people drawing women with impossible proportions.
There’s a real schizophrenia around women, there’s this idea that men or society in general isn’t supposed to judge women by their appearance.
I get that.
Still, if that were really true then there wouldn’t be article after article after article written by women about the way other women look and their bodies. Those articles aren’t the exception, they’re the rule. As much as women want to blame men for looking at them and judging their appearances the truth is WOMEN are way more concerned about their appearances and judging each other than men ever are or have been.
Aside from the fact that whole industries are built up to feed into that...
I have to wonder if the burqa doesn’t just put women in the place that they’re shooting for with all of this nonsense because all of that goes away when a woman is wearing a garment like that – makeup and fashion go right out the window when your body is covered so completely.
I like looking at beautiful women, I try not to be creepy though just because I think it’s impolite more than anything else but the way things are going these days I am left just shaking my head. People just want to continue lying to themselves and getting upset because the truth is too ugly for them to deal with.
